If you look at the Internet a few years back, you'll see that advertising was done in a way that was very similar to other types of media like television, or actually, more like what you see in a newspaper.
You'd enter a site, and in some location you'd get to see a banner (often these were quite numerous and very large), which would present and ad for whatever company was paying for adds on your space.
But there was one problem with this kind of advertising. It really wasn't exploiting the fact that the adds weren't in some newspaper, but were instead presented over the Internet.
You've probably noticed a lot of things like this over the pages you've browsed. You're looking at an on-line shop, looking for a watch but you get a banner that advertises a car.
While you might, at some later point want to buy a car, right now you're looking for a watch and it would have surely been nice if the banner were advertising a watch, because then you would have probably clicked it.
Well that's also what the folks at Google thought of, so they came up with a killer idea. This is knows as Google AdSense, and it's known as a targeted advertising program
What you do (as a web designer / website owner) is, instead of jumping through hoops to get some banner on your site that your visitors won't even care about, is you just allocate some region of the screen.
You then sign up for the Google AdSense program, you insert a small snippet of code in your webpage and Google ensures that in the location you specify, a banner will appear, presenting adds relevant to the contents of your site.
It's very easy for Google to do this because Google is a search engine company. It looks for the key words in your page, searches a database of websites to find the ones related to whatever is on your page and presto: a targeted ad.
You (the webmaster) get a fee for each visitor that clicks on an adsense banner on your site. Now that's bound to happen more often then with a traditional banner because people are actually interested in what's in that banner (otherwise, they wouldn't be on your page would they?).
But, this also does wonders for the people who want to advertise. And it's because of the same reason. The greatest thing about Google AdSense is that all the content in a banner is relevant.
This relevancy is the key to the programs success, and also the reason why everyone remains happy. The advertiser has a relevantly placed advert, the publisher earns money from their content and Google take their cut.
Of course, as always, Google has set some high standards for its AdSense program, in terms of looks and functionality. You can't have more than two such banners on your website and Google only inserts text in these banners.
So an extra benefit is that AdSense advertising is a lot less obtrusive then regular advertising. But this also means you should position the banner better because it's possible that visitors might miss it altogether.
So in the end, Google AdSense is an advertising program that is unique because the ads are relevant to the content on the site. Anyone that wants to advertise pays Google for it. Anyone who wants to place ads on their site does this through AdSense, getting paid by Google in the process.
All transactions are run through Google, and the advertisers and publishers get access to statistics which help them to understand and moderate the effectiveness of their campaign.
The whole process is elegant, simple and effective from anyone in the chain, from site visitors to advertisers, and it's one of the reasons Google are known for their innovation and new thinking.

2. Article Marketing: Making the Perfect Resource Box Article Marketing: Making the Perfect Resource Box
Making a quality article is not enough for it to sell; you have to make a resource box. It’s true that quality article writing can benefit your business by generating targeted traffic but it can also benefit you as a writer.
Besides promoting your business, a reader will sometimes be someone who is looking for a good writer. If you made a quality article and didn’t include a resource box, the person who is looking for a good writer to employ will never know how to contact you.
A resource box contains all the information about the writer; it will be like your calling card. Since there are so many people in the internet employing good writers, you can also make extra money by writing for someone. This means that your day job or your online business will not be the only source of income you’ll have. Writing is also a good business.
To make a resource box, here are some of the important items that you should include:
• Your full name: It is very surprising that many people who writes an article and post them in article publishing websites forgets to put their name on it. Your name should be the first thing you should put in a resource box.
• You should also include your website URL. People who would want to see more of your articles would really want to visit your website. People who are looking for writers would often visit the writer’s website to take a look of your other articles.
• Including your elevator pitch will get people more interested in you. Put 1 to 3 sentences that say about what makes your offer different from others.
• Now that you have their attention, you now have to make a reason for them to visit your website or buy from you. Since your submitted article contains only some few information about your product it is best that you should invite people into your website. Remember to give only one specific reason to visit your website.
These are the most important content of a good resource box. However, there are other optional items that would be beneficial to include.
• You should include the article publishing website URL in your resource box. Include all articles publishing website that you have submitted your articles. This is because people can read more of your articles from other article publishing websites.
• Include your contact information such as, your phone number, email and address. It creates a sense of professionalism. People who are hiring writers will be able to contact you and speak to you personally. By doing this, people may even invite you to speak on seminars and workshops. Paid or not, do not reject them, this can be good for your reputation and many other opportunities will come.
• Include a sentence that you will give free reports and of course you should provide them the free report. This will further enhance your credibility. Some people will think that you hired someone to do the articles for you. By creating a free report they can be surer that you wrote the article yourself.
Now you’re ready to post your articles in article publishing websites. You now have the idea to market your articles. However, don’t overdo your resource box. Here are some things that you should not include in your resource box. These are some of the most common mistakes people make in a resource box:
• If you have several websites, do not include every single one of them in your resource box. This will ruin your credibility. Post only your website that is related to the topic. If you post a link of each of your website that has nothing to do with the topic, it will make people think that you are a scammer.
• Do not post all of your achievements, people don’t care. Remember to keep a resource box simple and to the point. A resource box is for your information not for your ego.
• Make your resource box small. It should not be larger than one-fifth of your article size.
By making a resource box, it will give you a sense of professionalism and also could make people think that you are an expert on the topic. Be sure to follow these guides and you can have many business opportunities in the future. Again, do not forget to include your name.

3. Top Paying Keywords Top Paying Keywords
In people's search for higher incomes from Google AdSense a lot of AdSense publishers are looking to find those keywords that really bring the best income possible. The higher an advertiser pays for a keyword, they more the advertiser receives when they click on a link.
But how can you find such words for your site? Well, the answer to that question depends a little on who you are and what you're prepared to do to get those keywords. But the general good news is that you can indeed find such words if you need them.
Of course, if you can afford such a solution, one of the best ways of getting your hands on those words would be to pay for them. There are specialized companies that do business by finding people good keywords, not only for the purpose of more AdSense revenue but for search engine optimization as well.
Such a service can be found on "Top Paying Keywords" http://www.toppayingkeywords.com/?hop=moneymkr and this is a no-brainer to getting relevant content on your site and increasing your revenue by a whole bunch quickly.
Of course, if such a solution does not work for you, you can ultimately resort to a method of personal investigation. That means you try out keywords by yourself and see which ones work better or worse for yourself.
While you might also be doing this for the first method (paying someone else to get the keywords) it would probably be better then this because you'd at least be narrowing down search to certain items.
While you're trying this make sure to keep using AdSense's 'channels' feature along the way as it can be a very good way of letting you know which sections of your site are generating income and which aren't.
Of course, you can also yield a great amount of help from AdSense's arch enemy Overture. Overture gives you the possibility of entering keywords and finding out not only how much advertisers are paying to get them on your page, but how much people are clicking on the words as well. This service can be found at: http://www.pixelfast.com/overture/
You can also try out a tool called Word Tracker http://jeremyburns.com/a/wordtracker. What this tool can do is tell you how many sites are already using the same keywords. Learn from this lesson and don't try to use the words that a lot of people are already using.
Also, a great aid may very well be found in Google itself. Search Google for any keywords you may wish to include in your pages and look at the results. The results on the left will probably be your competitors (and if they have Google AdSense ads on their page you can bet then are) while the links on the right display ads relevant to your search.
If your search doesn't yield any AdSense results then you might want to reconsider including those keywords in your site.
Make sure you don't use any dead words (words that don't get any links on AdSense other then public ads. That is probably the most important thing you should be doing.
Of course these are only a few methods of getting out of the dead zone and starting to make serious money with AdSense. If you've seen a lot of people with "not so hot" websites generating a lot of AdSense revenue, using these tips can get you right behind them (or in front if you're really smart) very fast. Although this is the case it is also very important to remember that having the highest paying words does not mean that you make the most money. You have to also consider how many times the advert is clicked on.

4. How To Be Cautious And Successful In Affiliate Marketing How To Be Cautious And Successful In Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate Marketing is a great program. It provides those who want it with the means to set up their own home business. As an affiliate, you do work for another but you are rewarded for your work. The money you make is based on your individual performance not an hourly or yearly salary. Affiliate marketing provides many incentives to work harder and more efficiently. The harder and better you work, the more monetary success you are likely to see. Affiliate marketing also reduces the amount of risk. The main company handles the advertising and creation of the product allowing you to move the product in what ever way you think best.
One does need to be cautious in the field of affiliate marketing. For every great, legitimate opportunity out there, there are more ready to con. The internet has made it quite easy for these con artists to operate and even thrive.
Before you Plunge head first into the field on affiliate marketing you should do some checking. A general rule of thumb is to never do business with anyone that doesn’t have a fixed address and telephone number. If all they have to offer is an email address then look for another company. Doing business only by email is very dangerous. It makes it far too easy for these con artists to slip away and never be heard from again. Unfortunately, when they slip away it is likely with your money or earnings.
If you find a company that you are interested in then check the start up costs. These should be minimal if any at all. Ask is there is a way to pay back the start up costs through your sales commission. Most are willing to do this. However, if there seems to be a lot of initial money that needs to be paid by you then find something else. The chances are good that they will take your money and run, leaving you with worthless product.
Finally, ask what support you will receive if you agree to become part of their affiliate marketing plan. There should be someone there to guide you through the process and answer any questions that you have. They should also offer you advice on how best to market their product. It is up to you in the ends but they should offer you some stat up ideas. If their legitimate company they should want to help you all they can. They more you are able to sell the greater benefit for them as well.
You should keep in mind that affiliate marketing takes a of work. It is like any other business except that the risk to you is much lower. Ignore companies that promise huge salaries with little effort, it just won’t happen. Many people make great successes with affiliate marketing programs. However, they do work incredibly hard. However the rewards come when the hard work pays off. You’re the one that will reap the rewards, not your boss.
Affiliate marketing is a great way to start working for yourself. With lots of hard work and creativity you could be well on your way to great earnings doing something that you enjoy. It won’t be easy and in the beginning you’ll have to work harder then you ever did in a full-time job. But if you’re driven it will all be worth it in the end.

http://www.elitesmarketing.com 5. Making Affiliate Marketing Work up a Profit Making Affiliate Marketing Work up a Profit
Affiliate marketing is an extensive means of endorsing a website, in which an affiliate is compensated for each sale production using his or her own hard works.
In Affiliate marketing, there are various methods to earn money. Even if one of the methods can direct you to a victorious and moneymaking business, the studies and effort included can be so overpowering that when the time that you realized it, you are already tired nearly before you even get started. In that case, that unmanageable want to put off the task takes over. In addition, you also have not started yet and you are not able to end anything that you had already begun.
This is usually what happens to most affiliates-to-be when they are only beginning. Indeed, it can eventually direct them to think that only some of the Internet pros are able to earn money marketing affiliate programs.
If only 5 percent of affiliate marketers can earn money, does that mean that only a few percentage are able to reach success? Think about this…
Affiliate marketing is not a hard task. It is not also right to think that affiliate marketing is only for the educated and experienced ones. Also, never assume that only the fortunate people are the ones who are prone to success. This is not true!
If you are determined and eager to set a little priority and effort on this market, it is assured that you will acquire the kind of success that you want. Delaying or postponing will never have the opportunity to pull you down.
Expect this- you will surely be excited with just the thought of winning. All you have to by then is to sit down and start taking your few extra times to observe how your hard works quickly grow.
As for this moment, why not consider taking some of the following guidelines. You can follow these guidelines to a winning affiliate promoting campaign. Once you have realized that it is so easy, and that it essentially works, you will have the assurance and confidence to obtain success on affiliate marketing.
Begin by educating yourself with the things not necessary to you in starting an affiliate marketing program:
• Website is not essential when starting.
• Pay-per-click campaign is not required
• You will not have to read long-pages of e-books.
• There is no software needed.
If not all of these are needed, then what is there for you to keep?
You will only have an affiliate program to market. Select the program that will present you with a great sales memo and an excellent product. You may also opt for a program that provides an outstanding income every month. An outstanding profit is produced via the programs that rate the client on a monthly payment bases. The affiliate is then compensated each month the client maintains its subscription.
Now, how will you market your affiliate program?
Making articles is an ideal way to do this. Write an article and let others read it, copy and dispense on their own websites. In this way, you are already given an advantage to promote your affiliate program and your writings as well.
Every article you create should have a resource box with your name on it of course and a few lines consisting of anything that you want to say. This is the area where you can endorse your affiliate program and also where you can put your affiliate link.
The resource box should indicate something that can stimulate your reader and click your affiliate link.
Think of this as merely an easy task. Because it really is easy! However, it still needs hard work and time. Also, admit this – in order for you to earn some money you will have to accomplish even a bit.
If you think you cannot do all of these every month, then do not expect the taste of success.
This is just an easy plan though it is already proven effective. It will not cost any amount but your time to write articles and effort to distribute it.
Lastly, whatever it is that you want to do, maintain your center. Think that you can do it, because you really can!

6. 10 Resourceful Things You Can Do
1. Sell the reprint/reproduction rights to the product.
You could make money selling other people the rights
to reproduce and sell the product. People are always
looking for new products to sell.
2. Giveaway the product for free from your web site.
Just because it won't sell doesn't mean people won't
visit your web site to get it for free. They may see
another product you sell and buy that one.
3. Try auctioning off the product at an online auction.
You may make part of your investment back. If you're
lucky, you may even make a profit because people
sometimes get into bidding wars and will bid a higher
price than the product is worth.
4. Use the product as a free bonus for another product
you sell. This will increase the perceived value of the
product you're selling. People will feel they're receiving
more for less.
5. Contact businesses with the same target market and
see if they would be interested in using your product as
a free bonus for their product. You could place your ad
on the product and get free advertising.
6. Sell your product to businesses at wholesale cost as
a promotional product. Businesses are always looking
for products they can giveaway to their customers with
their advertising on the product. You could make part
of your investment back.
7. Barter your product to other businesses for things
you need for your own business. You could trade for
their products or services. This will save you money
and help make up for your profit loss.
8. You could create an online contest so people could
win your product. This will attract traffic to your web
site. You also could get free advertising by listing it on
online contest directories.
9. If you decide to giveaway the product for free, allow
other people to giveaway the product for free. Place
your web site ad on the product. This will spread your
advertising and attract even more people to your site.
10. Ask businesses with the same target audience if
they would be interested in combining your product
with their product. You could then sell them together
as a package deal and split the profits. You may have
better results selling your product this way.

7. Adsense Alternatives 1 Adsense Alternatives
Many people have started using Google's AdSense program, but there are some who find it a bit too uncertain or simply not suiting their own requirements from an ad program.
But thankfully for such people, there are many alternatives to AdSense which attempt to alleviate some of its shortcomings. Here is a list of the most noteworthy ones from the lot with a description concerning each one.
AllFeeds (http://www.allfeeds.com/?action=publishers)
AllFeeds has a great pool of online advertisers to choose from. It also features many display formats that you can choose from. These include banners, buttons, XML feeds, DHTML pop-ups and so on. It also features real time reporting of your ad status. The site will mail a check every month, provided that you earn more then $25.00, while rolling over earnings for the next month if you don't. Another interesting thing about AllFeeds is that it integrates with Google AdSense, maximizing your earnings with AdSense.
MarketBanker (http://www.marketbanker.com/mb/sell.php)
MarketBanker allows you the unique possiblity to set the pricing for your site. It also allows you to allow or reject any link that appears on your site (although AdSense itself does a very good job of this as well, with URL filters) There's also a statistics section which will allow you to see how well your site is doing. The ads are small just like AdSense's and they're just as easy to set up. Also, registration for MarketBanker is free.
BidClix ( http://www.bidclix.com/PubTop.html)
BidClix is different because it has advertisers compete for clicks on your site, which in turn is meant to generate the highest possible profits for your page. It also has a very large pool of advertisers which ensure there are plenty of people to choose your site. However, it does require more polish on site contents then AdSense. As most sites, real time statistics are available and its very easy to get started with this service, but it's also very flexible.
Chitika (http://www.realcontext.com/index.php?option=RealContext:+Contextual+Targeting+Engine)
RealContext uses Artificial intelligence to retrieve the most relevant ads for your page. And there's an extra feature which makes RealContext unique as well. Keywords are selected based upon which previous selections payed off and which didn't. That means there's a constant feedback process that ensures you gain better revenue from your ads. It also supports blocking certain adds and child-safe filtering and many more options.
AdHearus (http://adhearus.com/webmaster.php)
AdHearus is a very feature-packed contextual ad provider. As with AdSense, advertisements are targeted but it doesn't stop here at all. The ads are very flexible, you can select from text-ads, banners, rectangles, pop-ups, pop-unders or skyscrapers. You can also display your own ads, through rotation, both on your site and on other affiliate sites, which makes AdHearus a hybrid with conventional advertising technologies. There's a very comprehensive on-line real time reporting feature and, as usual with such services, starting out is free and it's a breeze.
AffiliateSensor (http://www.affiliatesensor.com/)
AffiliateSensor has highly customizable ad blocks, which you can make for yourself with an easy to use on-line interface. You also get realtime reporting with clicks-by-domain, page and refferer. There's integration with Google AdSense as well, through the google_alternate_ad_url so AffiliateSensor can be used as a substitute for Google PSA's (Public Service Ads).
Kanoodle Bright Ads (http://www.kanoodle.com/about/brightads.cool)
Kanoodle's offering allows publishers to get ads related to topics or segments, and not the traditional keyword oriented ads. The site also groups publisher sites with advertisers by hand to ensure high-revenue generating ads. And speaking of revenue, the amount of money you receive is a clear 50% share of the amount of money Kanoodle recieves for an advertiser.
TargetPoint (http://publisher.targetpoint.com)
TargetPoint is oriented more towards content publishers. It offers full control over the look the ads, statistics over your site's overall performance and better revenue. It's free to register and you earn a guaranteed 60% of the total revenue. You can get payed with Paypal of Bank checks and (most times) wire transfers as well.
Clicksor (http://www.clicksor.com)
Clicksor will earn you as much as 60% from the amount of money your website produces. What you get is about the same as AdSense, there are targeted text ads, you can view the revenues from your website in real time. You can receive money via PayPal or through a check every two weeks, provided that you have earned more then $50. If you haven't made that much, your earning roll over to the next period

9. 10 Electrifying Ways To Explode Your Orders
1. Persuade visitors to link to your web site. Give
them a freebie in exchange for them linking to your
web site. It could be content, software, etc.
2. Link to web sites that provide useful information
or services for your visitors. If you have many useful
links on your site, they may make it their start page.
3. Spice-up your web site's wording using plenty of
adjectives. It gives your visitors a clearer vision of
what your explaining or describing to them.
4. Don't make your banner ads look like ads. Most
people ignore banner ads. Design them to look like
content and have them click to read the rest.
5. Join affiliate programs that go with the theme of
your web site. You'll just be wasting valuable space
and time if your visitors aren't interested in them.
6. Market your web site as a free club instead of
a web site. This'll increase your repeat visitors and
sales because people enjoy belonging to groups.
7. Interact with your online customers on a regular
basis. This'll show them you care about them. You
could use a chat room, forum or message system.
8. Check your web site links regularly. After people
click on one link, and it doesn't work, they usually
won't risk wasting their time clicking on another one.
9. Give visitors a positive experience when they're
at your web site. Provide them with original content
and free stuff. They'll tell all of their friends about it.
10. Share customers with other businesses that have
the same target audience. Offer their product to your
customers if, in exchange they do the same for you.10. Encouraging Affiliates to Promote Your Products Encouraging Affiliates to Promote Your Products
by Greg Turner
If you want the quickest, easiest way to sell your own products then you need to do it the 'lazy' way. You need to convince other people to sell your products for a cut of the profits. Having your own affiliate program is the 'lazy' way of marketing and getting maximum returns.
Here are 4 ways to encourage affiliates to promote your products.
1. Have a common affiliate program.
There is nothing worse then having to signup for a seperate affiliate program every time you want to promote a certain product. It is a real put off to affiliates. So if you have just one or two products I recommed that you use a large market place such as %%Your Clickbank Link%% or %%Your PayDotCom Link%% to get lots of affiliates to promote your products.
2. Pay a big commission.
When selling digital products online it is recommended that you give the largest percentage you can. A minimum of 50% should be offered, 60% is nice but 70% or 75% is a generous commission. You might be thinking to yourself, "75%! That is crazy... I want to make 'some' money as well, why should they get more than me?". Quite simply, the more you give affiliates the more likely they are willing to spend their money to promote your products so you will make more sales and get the potential for more repeat products in the long run.
3. Pay them quickly and reliably.
Affiliates always have an inbuilt fear that the product owner will run off with their money so the sooner you pay them the more comfortable they are and the more willing they are to promote your products. Plus if you pay them relieably at the agreed time each month then this will have the same effect.
4. Make it easy for them to promote you.
The last thing you want to do is make it hard or complicated for your affiliates to promote your products. So you have to make it dead easy for them to promote you by providing them with easy to brand solo ads, articles and ezine ads.
All the best for your online success.

Day 4: Formatting Your Email Messages
You have two choices when sending messages out to your list. You
can send them as plain text, or as HTML messages. If you want to
track the open rate - the number of list members that actually open
your email - you must send out HTML emails.
HTML emails are very easy to construct, within your Autoresponder,
and you don't actually have to know HTML to do this. They look very
nice. But there are two problems: First, HTML emails hit the spam
folder fairly often, because spam filters don't like HTML. Second,
many people have their email clients set to not accept HTML email.
Text is usually preferred.
Next, you want to make absolutely sure that each email you send out
contains proper spelling and grammar. Nothing will make you look
worse than sending out an email full of words that are misspelled,
and grammar that is really bad. Your readers simply won't take you
seriously.
You also need to make sure that your emails do not break up in your
readers email client. This happens fairly often, if you don't
format them correctly. Make sure that you use a hard return (hit
the enter key) at the end of each and every line in your email.
Also make sure that you keep the length of each line between 40 and
50 characters, maximum, including punctuation and spaces.
Your Autoresponder service should have a test email feature, which
will allow you to construct your email message, and then have a
test copy sent to yourself, before sending it out to your list.
Have it sent to an email account that you use with an email client,
such as Outlook or Eudora, and also send it to your free email
addresses at Yahoo, Gmail, and/or Hotmail.
Finally, before you send it out, do a spam test. Your Autoresponder
should have a spam check feature, and all you have to do is click
the button, and it will tell you the spam rating of the email
you've just created. You want the number on the spam rating to be
very low. If it isn't, look to see what problems the spam checker
is finding with the email. It will tell you where the problems are.
Never send out attachments with your email messages. These often
hit the spam folders, or get ignored by your subscribers. An email
with an attachment is cause for suspicion. People worry about
viruses.
Also, if you are sending out HTML emails, keep the use of graphics
to a minimum, as this really makes the download of the email very
slow.
Homework Assignment: Put one of your email messages into your
Autoresponder, and send it to yourself. Look at it in your Outlook,
but also look at it in a web based service, such as Yahoo Mail,
Gmail, or Hotmail.12. Choosing the Right Autoresponder
Choosing the Right Autoresponder
Today, we are going to discuss how to choose the right
Autoresponder. Just as your opt-in list is your most valuable
business asset, your Autoresponder service is your most important
tool for email marketing.
There are literally dozens of Autoresponders to choose from. Some
are free, some are not. Some are good, some are not. Email
marketing can be tricky, it is important that you choose the best
possible Autoresponder. It is equally important to put forth a
professional image, so using a free Autoresponder is not
recommended, because they include ads in each message that you send
out.
If you absolutely cannot afford to pay for an Autoresponder service
at this time, go with a service such as Get Response, This is one
of the top three Autoresponders services available, and the only one
of those two that offers a free account. Later, when you are ready
to upgrade, you can easily do so, without moving your list.
Get Response is just one of the three top services. The other two
are Aweber and UMC, UMC is also the hosting company I use. These
three are the top services for two reasons: First, they have the
highest possible deliverability rate, and second because they are
fully featured and powerful.
(You will find links to all three of these Autoresponders at the
bottom of the email so you can better compare)
Deliverability should always be your first concern. Unfortunately,
most services won't tell you what their deliverability rate is. The
deliverability rate essentially means how likely your messages are
to get delivered to your subscriber's inboxes. If the service does
not have a good deliverability rate, it means that the spam filters
have flagged their domain or IP, and that your messages are likely
to hit the spam folders - they may not even get delivered at all.
The more features you have, the more you can do. For instance, you
want to be able to track links, track sales, have the option to
send text or HTML emails, track open rates, etc. Many
Autoresponders don't have these features. You also want to be able
to create unlimited lists, and you can do this with either Aweber
or Get Response or UMC, but many services will only allow you to
create one list, or a limited number of lists.
Overall, Aweber, Get Response and UMC are really are the three best
services in terms of deliverability, usability, and features that I
have run accross. It does take a little time to figure out how to
use all of the features, but these services offer tutorials that
will lead you through the process.
Homework Assignment: Choose the Autoresponder that you will use for
your email marketing. Get set up, and learn how to use it. Look at,
and learn to use, all of the features that are available.13. SEO - the Basics SEO - the Basics
You know that search engine optimization (SEO) can improve the way your web site interacts
with search engines and thus improve your overall rankings. But, there is more to SEO than
creating good META tags and tweaking content. Here is a checklist for SEO to help you
decide whether to outsource or do it yourself.
Strategy and Planning: Success in SEO is won or lost in this phase. Everything you do from
this point on depends on a winning plan.
Establish Your Goals: Often this stage is overlooked - you know what you want, right? Well
sometimes your goal can be virtually unattainable. You must research the competition to
find out how much effort it will take to attain your goal. Look at the top sites for your
desired keywords and set your sights on beating the weakest link. If the competition is too
fierce - set your sights on niche keywords.
Select keywords: Use keyword suggestion tools to find out if your keywords are highly
searched and on target. Select relevant keywords but don't try to target too many as this
will dilute your site's relevance.
Create content around your keywords. Use the keywords you select (and variations)
throughout the site's content. At this stage, don't worry about densities - just write
content that is relevant and legible to visitors.
Architecture: Draw out a plan - how will each page in your site flow and relate to each
keyword? Make a list of pages and the corresponding keywords they will target.
Link Plan: As you are researching, make a list of prospects for link partners.
Optimization: Following the plan you've laid out, each page of your site should have one to
two target keywords.
Title: Create a unique title tag using the primary keyword for every page. The title should
be no more than nine words and refrain from using stop words such as "and, or, the, etc."
META Tags: Create a unique META description for every page using the targeted keyword. Keep
your description between 10 and 20 words and try to use any secondary keywords here as
well.
Content: Make sure your content is written for humans - not search engines, but you want to
it to be keyword-rich. Use your keyword at the beginning, middle and end of each page.
Headlines and Links: Use your keyword in a headline (H1 or Bold) tag within your page.
Whenever you are linking to other relevant content within your site, use the corresponding
keyword as your anchor text.
Images: If page uses images, use the keyword in your ALT attributes for the image.
Technical Checklist: The following list of items can improve or detract from your SEO
efforts.
Unique IP Address: Having a unique IP address for your web site can improve your SEO.
Server Header: Make sure your server does not return a redirect or misconfiguration. There
are tools you can use to check the information your server returns upon a page request.
Robots: Double check your robots.txt file to make sure you are not excluding content from
being indexed.
HTML Validation: Poorly constructed HTML can prohibit part or all content from being
indexed. Make certain your code is the best it can be.
Multiple Domains: Multiple domain names pointing to the same web site can sometimes be
interpreted as "duplicate content" by search engines. Duplicate content can be penalized in
rankings.
Conversion Tracking: It is critically important to track the effectiveness of your work.
There are tools you can use (in addition to your web site statistics) that will help you
determine what is working and what is not.
Ranking Checks : It is always good to have some tools to track your progress in achieving
positions.
Off page factors: After optimizing your pages, it's time to concentrate on the factors
outside your web site that affect your ranking.
Linking: Get quality links to your web site. Choose prospects based on their relevance to
your site and then approach each site with a personal request for a link to you. Have your
information prepared in advance based on the page you want a link to and the corresponding
keyword for that page. Always opt for a text link using your targeted keywords.
Search engine submission: Once you obtain links coming to your site; search engines will
find you. You can still submit your URL although it is better to concentrate on
directories.
Be wary of any techniques that involve methods that can be deemed as "SEO tricks". These
methods may sometimes produce short-term results; but if you get penalized or removed from
search engines it could be a disaster for your business.
Hidden Text: Text that only appears to search engines and not humans is fairly easy for the
search engine to spot. There are many different methods for "switch and bait" AND they are
now being targeted and weeded out by the search engines.
Doorways: Although there are some legitimate uses for doorway pages; if you create pages
(or domains) just for the purpose of targeting a keyword you will ultimately hurt your
rankings.
Links: Getting thousands of links from unrelated sites or "link farms" will not help your
rank and could hurt it.
SEO is not only about improving your rankings... it's about creating unique,
relevantcontent that visitors will find useful. By following a few guidelines and a little
common sense, the things that make your site relevant to visitors will also make it
relevant for search engines.

http://moneytalks.veretekk.com14. Who Benefits from SEO? Who Benefits from SEO?
A big question for business owners is whether or not to invest in SEO. SEO may improve performance, but some sites require much more work than others to gain even marginal results. In these cases, using paid search marketing until you are ready for a re-design makes more sense.
The most common mistake site owners make is not seeking professional SEO advice BEFORE the design process. Web designers are not usually SEO experts. Their job involves designing the site... often they overlook the technical aspects of making the site search engine friendly. Because many site owners assume these aspects are part of the design, they don't seek marketing advice until after the site is completed. It is hard to tell someone that no matter what they do their beautiful site will never achieve high rankings.
Each situation is different depending on budget and quality of the site construction. Here is a list of common problems and the recommended solutions.
PROBLEM: My site has no rankings and it was designed more than 3 years ago.
If the site owner has the budget, we would recommend a redesign along with SEO. Why? Because any site that is over 3 years old can probably benefit from newer technology and up-to-date SEO techniques. There is no substitute for starting from the ground up - improving the usability and SEO at the same time. If the budget is tight, redesign would depend on whether or not the existing site has problems that are preventing it from being indexed in search engines (using frames, flash, etc.). Sometimes these problems can be corrected and SEO alone is enough to get decent rankings.
PROBLEM: My site has no rankings and I just spent a bundle on re-design.
It depends on the site, however, often I would try to salvage this site and perform SEO without a redesign. Unless the problems are huge, improving the optimization and content may do the trick.
PROBLEM: My site needs a redesign... when should I think about SEO?
Absolutely think about SEO BEFORE YOU EVEN PLAN A RE-DESIGN. SEO starts in the planning stage, choosing the right keywords and structuring the site content. Everything from planning to final build-out play a role in how highly optimized your site will be.
PROBLEM: My site needs SEO... Can I do it myself?
If you have a small budget and you are thinking of doing SEO yourself, be prepared to spend a considerable amount of time learning before you act - but... you should do it. Properly executed, SEO can improve your site for human visitors as well as search engines. If you do have the budget, consider hiring a professional. For the cost involved, it makes sense to save the time and effort required.

In Part 1 and Part 2 of How to Optimize for Google I discussed general website optimization, links, and Google webmaster tools. In Part 3 we will look at a number of other considerations which play a role in successful rankings in Google, and also touch on some tactics which are best avoided.
Completing Optimization: Other Considerations
Redirects
If you need to use redirects on your site, it is very important to use the correct one. If a page is moving to a new location, or being removed all together, it is very important to have this page redirected to either the new location or the next closest page using a Permanent 301 Redirect.
While rare, if a page is being moved to a new location for a short term, with the intent of it returning to the original location, then and only then, will you want to use a Temporary 302 redirect. For more information please see Redirects: Permanent 301 vs. Temporary 302 .

Non WWW Redirects
To help eliminate page rank split, and provide your site with a little extra value, implement a non-www redirect. What this redirect will do is change the URL to include the "www" whenever a URL is accessed that does not include it. This can help to consolidate links to the correct page and give your site some additional strength. For more help on Non WWW redirects please see: How to 301 Redirect Non-WWW to WWW URL's
HTTP Headers
Check your page headers! If you have implemented any form of redirect on your site including mod rewrites, check your HTTP headers. You may be surprised at what you find. Some forms of redirects may use a 302 code where you really want a 301. By checking your headers you can ensure all is well, and troubleshoot problems. On our website we have added our own HTTP Header Checker for your convenience.
Home Page URL
Never have more than one URL for your home page. If your home page is available and displays on more than one URL, then utilize 301 redirects on all but the main URL you want to focus on - in most cases "http://www.domain.com/". All your links pointing to the home page should direct to the exact same URL otherwise you will split the value of your home page into multiple duplicate URL's.
Google sees "http://www.domain.com" and "http://www.domain.com/index.html" as different pages, but displaying the same content. This splits the overall value of your home page, and can decrease the chances of rankings. By keeping it consistent with a single URL, you remove this split and retain more of the strength.
In theory having your home page split like this could bring with it duplicate content penalties, however, I have yet to see this actually happen - that said, it is best to avoid the risk all together.
XML Sitemap
XML Sitemaps are great for ensuring that Google and the other engines are able to spider your entire site. While an XML sitemap will not directly impact your search rankings it can help as Google is more likely to see any SEO based changes more quickly, which in turn can have an impact.
Robots.txt
This is the first file all search engines look for every time they visit your site. While placing a blank robots.txt file in your root folder will not help with search rankings, it will help reduce 404 errors appearing in your log files.

It is also highly recommended that if your site utilizes an XML sitemap, to include a call to this sitemap within the Robots.txt file. Simply add the following line to ensure that the major engines (including Google) can find your sitemap:
Sitemap: http://www.domain.com/sitemap.xml
Potential Blockages
If you are finding that your site is simply not being indexed it is possible that you are blocking the spiders in one way or another.
Start with checking your main site navigation, if you are using Flash or some other fancy form of navigation that could be your problem right there. Next check your HTTP headers to ensure that your home page is returning a 2xx code which indicates that the clients' request was successfully received. Finally take a look at your Google Webmaster Tools for any noted errors. If you are blocking Google, chances are you will be able to uncover the issue with these steps.
Duplicate Content
Duplicate content can be quite damaging to your rankings. Ensure that all content on your site is unique. Never steal or "borrow" content from another site, and never cut and paste large portions of text from one page of your site to the next. By keeping all pages of your site entirely original you stand the best chances of getting a thumbs up from Google.
Fresh Content / Regular Updates
Update your content. In highly competitive markets, sites with old static content can often slip away. Keep your content fresh and updated to keep bringing Google back to your site. If they find new pages and updated pages with every visit, they will come back more often.
Site Age
The age of your site can also have an effect on search engine rankings. While there is little you can do (short of keeping the same domain) to help on this matter, remember that the longer your site is online, the better its chances for success. It pays to select the perfect domain right from the start and not to change domains mid-stream. Older sites that stand the test of time add a level of authority in Google's eyes. New sites seldom see rankings for competitive terms in their first year.
Note: Site Age is determined not by the date the domain was originally registered by rather by the date Google first discovered content on your site.
Load Time
Load time can have an impact in your Google AdWords Quality Score but it is unknown for sure if it can also impact your organic search rankings. It is best to keep your load time to as little as possible. If it is not already a part of the Google Algorithm, it likely will be soon. Besides, it is also best in order to give your site visitors the best experience possible.
Server Up Time
This can be a rather significant issue. If you find that your web hosting company has a history of down time, change hosts. If Google comes to visit your site once and it is down, not to worry, they will come back, but if Google visits your site often only to find that it is unavailable, you can find yourself with drastically depleted rankings.
Google Local
If you have a traditional brick and mortar store, consider submitting to Google Local . While this will not directly impact your regular organic rankings, you may find your site ranking above the organic results with a "local business results" map listing. This tends to be most common when your business is near the geographic center of a city, and when the search phrase uses a geographic modifier.
W3C Compliant Code
There is much speculation as to if W3C compliant code can have a positive impact on search rankings, and the majority believe "maybe" with some saying "yes". Regardless, it is definitely a good idea to have your site be W3C Compliant if at all possible. Not only may it help you in terms of search rankings, but having compliant code can decrease load times, and help to ensure cross-browser compatibility, all of which are good things. If at all possible, it is recommended that sites be made to be compliant.
A lot of the experts who took part in the SEOMoz "Google Search Engine Ranking Factors" lean towards it not being a big contributor, however, it may be an issue if Google has difficulties indexing a page properly16. Do you know if....You Need a License?
Do you know if....
You Need a License?
Did you know many types of businesses are strictly regulated and
controlled by governments.
I once knew a lady whose great idea was to make croutons from her
house. Needless to say, that didn't last long when the inspector
heard about it.
If you think you've got an idea that's going to make you big money,
there might be a reason why everyone else isn't doing it and that
reason could be related to the law.
As I mentioned above if you are going to sell food, you will need
to license and register for hygiene and safety inspections. For
many reasons most local government agencies are especially strict
if you plan to handle food especially raw meat. Food licenses
aren't too hard to get provided you are willing to have your
kitchen and products inspected at regular intervals
An in home daycare will need a license. There are all sorts of
courses to take and regular inspections to go through. If you ever
wonder why there's a shortage of in home childcare providers it's
because it's so hard to keep up with the rules and make a profit.
Gambling is almost always strictly regulated. it might be fine to
gamble privately with your friends depending on where you live, but
as soon as you start running it as a business you are on shaky
ground. You'll also find that most places have laws against
lotteries. Applying for a license to turn your home into a gambling
establishment is pretty sure to fail.
You will need a license if you plan to serve alcohol. Getting an
alcohol license for your home, unless it's for some kind of special
event and the drinking is just incidental is pretty much out of the
question. Alcohol licenses are subject to appeals from people who
live near you. So unless your whole neighborhood is ok with it you
may have trouble.
Anything medical will probably need a license. When I say medical,
I mean doctors, dentists, opticians, and even vets. You might think
it did be fine to turn your home into an 'animal hospital', but you
need to be qualified and licensed. Of course, if you've previously
been a doctor, dentist, or whatever, then you shouldn't have too
much trouble getting licensed to do the same thing from home.
This list just covers some of the most common businesses that need
licensing. The best idea is to check your local laws 17. My Top Links Your Veretekk Marketing Portal:

10. Give free online classes or seminars. They
could be held in your web site's chat room. The
idea of "live" information will definitely entice
people to visit your web site. You will become
known as an expert on the topic.20. 7 Questions That Could Double Your Profits For most business owners and independent professionals,
the key to success is attracting more customers willing to
pay higher prices.
It sounds simple but, if you run your own business, you
know it's easier said than done.
The problem is that there are only 24 hours in the day and
you have to spread yourself around a whole range of
different tasks - looking after your clients, finding new ones,
planning for the future and carrying out all the day-to-day
duties of running a business. Each of these is a full-time job
on its own.
Studying highly successful business owners and
entrepreneurs suggests that a combination of two factors is
needed:
Firstly, the right "success mindset" or way of thinking.
Secondly, effective marketing that easily attracts lots of
customers and lets you charge higher prices.
Maybe the first of those sounds like the usual 'positive
thinking' psychobabble. But the reality is it's what successful
entrepreneurs do every day with fantastic results. And the
rest fail because they don't have it.
So let's put it to the test. Grab a sheet of paper now and
answer a few quick questions.
I promise this will help grow your business.
Success mindset is based on two things - knowing what you
want and taking focused action to get it.
So, to start, consider these two questions.
1. What exactly do you want your business to have achieved
in 3 years time (e.g. in terms of sales, profits, size or reputation)?
2. What proportion of your time each day is spent on
activities that are focused on these objectives?
If the answer to the second question is too low, maybe you
need to give something up.
When you have the right mindset, the next step is making your
marketing as effective as possible.
The trouble is that most business owners don't think of
themselves as being in marketing.
But, whatever business you're in, marketing is its lifeblood.
It keeps your business growing, and can allow you to enjoy
your dream lifestyle.
Yet most business owners either don't pay enough attention
to marketing, or they spend so much time and energy on it
that they don't have time to make money.
Some gurus would like you to think that marketing is a complicated
process that requires lots of specialist advice.
Truth is it can be quite straightforward if you put in a bit of
thought and planning.
Being able to give powerful answers to these five questions
gives you the keys to increasing your profits.
1. What problems do your prospects and customers have
that you can solve or what do they want to achieve that
you can help them with?
2. Who are your ideal customers, taking into account how
you can reach them and how well you can give them what
they want?
3. Why should they do business with you rather than
someone else?
4. How can you get your message across to them using
what media?
5. When exactly will you communicate with them using each
of these tools?
These may seem quite simple but most business owners
struggle to give good answers to all of them.
If you spend a few minutes answering each of these
questions, you have the basis of a powerful and effective
marketing plan.
Then, as you act on it, you can keep reviewing it based on
the results and improve your answers.
Combining these good marketing answers with the right
mindset from the first two questions above, you are well on
your way to success21. IAB, PwC: Internet Advertising Revenues Reach Record Highs in Q4, Full-Year ‘07
Internet advertising revenues for 2007 are estimated to have reached $21.1 billion, a 25% increase over the previous revenue record of nearly $16.9 billion for full-year 2006, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
Fourth-quarter 2007 revenues totaled approximately $5.9 billion, the highest ever reported for a quarter - and 13% more than in 3Q07 and 24% more than in 4Q06, IAB said.
All four quarters in 2007 set new internet ad revenue records, according to the estimates.
The IAB sponsors the Internet Advertising Revenue Report, which is conducted independently by PricewaterhouseCoopers. The full report is issued twice yearly for full and half-year data, and top-line quarterly estimates are issued for the first, third and fourth quarters.
Fourth quarter and full-year online ad revenue estimates result from surveying and aggregating data from the top 15 online ad sellers, and then extrapolating those to calculate the total estimated industry revenue figure.
Actual third and fourth-quarter results will be reported in the full 2007 Internet Advertising Revenue Report, expected in May 2008.22. Online Ad Spend Expectations Reduced by $1.6B

I'm rethinking the 'Lost' ad buy. Advertisers in the US will spend $25.9
billion online this year,
according to
emarketers revised US internet ad spend projections.
The figure is slightly lower than its October 2007 forecast of $27.5 billion
online ad spend in 2008, MarketingCharts .
writes
Nevertheless, the lowered estimate is 23 percent more than the $21.1 billion in
online ad spend in 2007. Spending is expected to reach $51.0 billion in 2012,
eMarketer forecast:
Most online ad spending is for search, but the greatest growth will come from
rich media and video ads, eMarketer said, based in part on the large portals'
acquisitions (DoubleClick, Adtech, Bebo) in the past year that will bring in the
non-search chunk of the market.
Google, Yahoo, MSN and AOL are becoming one-stop shops for advertisers by
building up ad networks with targeting and tracking capabilities.
"When the portal is both destination and network, perhaps advertisers can get
all they need without straying — or at least that's what the Big Four hope for,"
said David Hallerman, eMarketer senior analyst, and author of the new report,
"US Advertising Spending: Resilience in a Dicey Economy."
Internet ad spend growth in 2008 will continue surpass that of all other major
media, eMarketer said. After a nearly 23 percent increase in 2008, spending
growth in 2009 is forecast to drop to about 16 percent, it projected:
By 2012 an anticipated boom in online video advertising, combined with continued
strength in more-established internet ad categories such as paid search and
classifieds, and a recovered economy, will yield spending growth greater than 20
percent for the first time since 2008, according to eMarketer.
Note: eMarketer benchmarks its US online ad spend projections against data from
the
Interactive Advertising Bureau/PricewaterhouseCoopers.
23. NY bill threatens online ads We as marketers need to remember that at the end of the day, our business is about serving consumers,” he
said. “From an industry perspective we should be thinking about giving the best consumer experience possible
and making it easy for them to opt out.”
Still, Jalli said he thinks that legislators should use language that would prevent the prohibition of behavioral
targeting.
While Sopris did not say how the bill would be enforced, he did say that it could go further than New York. The
bill could be especially problematic for those businesses that do online business across state lines and globally.
“This could be the impetus for a larger federal piece of legislation, but that's something we'll have to wait and
see about,” he said.
Connecticut is also proposing a similar bill in the current assembly session. In an e-mail to DMNews, Jerry
Farrell Jr., commissioner of consumer protection in Connecticut, said “Connecticut has not passed a law
barring the tracking of consumer behavior online. There are legislative proposals that have been made that
would deal with some aspects of such tracking. But, at this point, they are strictly proposals and would need to
work their way through the legislature by early May, in order to become law.”
The proposed New York bill is currently in the Consumer Affairs Committee, and will be sent to the floor
when the proposal has been finalized.
The issue of consumer privacy online is not a new one. Last November, the FTC met with nine privacy
organizations, including the Center for Democracy and Technology, Consumer Action, Consumer Federation
of America, Public Information Research, Privacy Journal and World Privacy Forum, about implementing a do-
not-track list that would protect consumers from having their online activities tracked, stored and used by
marketers and advertising networks without their knowledge.
The list would require advertisers that use tracking technologies on consumers' computers to register with the
FTC all domain names of the servers involved in the tracking. There is currently a cookie available from the
FTC that consumers can download to see individual sites' tracking habits. No legislative action on this proposal
has been taken yet.
Microsoft, Google and AOL are getting ready to meet with New York assemblyman Richard Brodsky, a Demo
crat from Westchester County, to discuss a privacy bill that he is developing, which could have strong
implications for the online advertising industry.
“The bill is very broad and it would make a lot of legitimate practices illegal. [It] would basically make ad
networks illegal,” said Mike Zaneis, VP of public policy at the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB). “Publishers
usually offer up thousands of ad impressions into an ad exchange, which are bid on by dozens of entities in real
time.”
The bill would also mandate that all relationships between publishers and advertisers be contractual. Some
Internet advertisers feel that, if a contract is required, it may slow down the process and exchanges that take
place in an automated ad exchange.
Brodsky's office is meeting with these Internet giants to discuss and help finalize the proposal, which was
based in part on the best practice guidelines set by the Network Advertising Initiative, a group of online mar
keting and analytics companies. Yahoo met with the Assemblyman last fall.
“We are looking to clean up the language and are looking to these companies in the industry to tell us what
they think,” said Kent Sopris, legislative director at Brodsky's office.
The bill first came to life last June in response to Google's offer to acquire DoubleClick, which, after a series of
reviews, has been approved.
“Assemblyman Brodsky was not satisfied with the focus of privacy that the [Federal Trade Commission] was
looking at and wanted to make sure that a big company like Google cannot track a consumer's behavior and then
target them with advertising based on these ads,” Sopris explained.
Google, Yahoo and Microsoft did not return phone calls for comment. AOL declined to comment on the
proposed bill until it meets with Brodsky.
The IAB is pushing for consumer and legislator education about how online advertising technologies work and
the benefits that it can have for consumers.
“While it claims to be looking out for consumers, this bill is not consumer friendly,” Zaneis said. “Advertising is
the engine that drives the Internet today. It pays for free services and content for consumers.”
John Ardis, VP of corporate strategy at ValueClick, agreed, “The problem with this kind of legislation is that
while it usually starts with good intentions, without a fuller understanding of how some of these things work, it
can cause unexpected harm to both consumers and the direct marketing industry.”
ValueClick itself was just fined $2.9 million in a settlement with the FTC regarding a complaint for allegedly
violating CAN-SPAM.
According to Ardis, raising questions about online privacy may lead legislators to consider direct mail and
telemarketing, where much more personal information is tracked. “The focus should be on protecting data,”
he said.
But not everyone in the industry thinks that this proposal is bad. Quinn Jalli, chief privacy officer at Datran
Media, which was fined $1.1 million in March 2006 to settle a lawsuit brought about by former New York
Governor Eliot Spitzer concerning a privacy breach, said that the industry should have seen this coming.

Whether You Know It Or Not... Your Email Is NOT Being Delivered!
'Great Email Experiment'
SUMMARY: Author and online publisher Alan R. Bechtold claims email
deliverability issues have become
intolerable. Because email is such an integral part of easily achieving
financial freedom today, he's launching an
experiment to determine which email providers are best and which are worst.
Alan R. Bechtold, author of 'Will Work for Fun (due for release from John Wiley
& Sons May 26, 2008) is
launching the Great Email Experiment on Monday, March 24th, 2008. Bechtold, also
an Internet marketing and
publishing veteran with more than 24 years of experience, says his experiment is
designed to specifically identify
which email service providers reliably deliver wanted emails while still
effectively eliminating spam.
"Most email service providers today are simply tossing emails based on criteria
that they've decided indicate
whether an email might be spam or not," Bechtold said. "Most don't check to see
if an email they're tossing is
from someone the recipient has marked as an accepted sender they want to hear
from. They simply pitch it if it
looks like spam to them."
Bechtold says such actions by email service providers are widespread today and
they threaten to destroy the
reliability of email altogether if they're allowed to continue.
"All emails from accepted senders should get through, regardless of what their
emails look like to the service
provider," Bechtold said. "If a service provider isn't willing to deliver all
email to their clients that their clients
want to receive, consumers need know, so they can move to a provider that does.
My Experiment will show
people which providers they should use and which should be avoided."
Interested parties can participate in the Great Email Experiment by visiting
http://www.SaveOurEmailNow.com
before March 24. Participants will simply watch their "in" boxes for a series of
emails, and they'll be offered a
selection of valuable free gifts while they do. There is no cost to participate.
The results, gathered during Bechtold's experiment, will also be available at
http://www.SaveOurEmailNow.com
no later than April 10. Bechtold also just launched
http://www.emailhorrorstories.com,
a blog where anyone can
share their experiences relating to email deliverability, whether they
participate in the Experiment or not.

25. The Most Powerful But Most Dangerous Place to be-The Comfort Zone
New Page 1
There is one thing on this planet that gives children (and some adults) more
power than they would ever imagine. We have all experienced it before and if you
can get hold of it, you experience freedom and satisfaction that surpass all
understanding. With this 'thing', you can control how people feel around you as
well as how they might react towards you... You can call it whatever you want
to, but I just call it the TV remote.
We all know the divine moment you experience when you can get to the remote
first. What makes it even more powerful, is when you have reserved parking in
the most comfortable chair in the room. This is such a comfortable place to be
in, and we can control virtually everything around us, but in this comfy place,
you are marked with one big red bull's eye. You are the target for world war 3.
Similarly, we all find ourselves in such a spot somewhere in our lives. This
comfort zone we all find ourselves in, is such a powerful place because we
always tend to find something in it that we can use to control things. It gives
us power to make any decision we want to and it even gives us the power to
manipulate people. But every comfort zone is marked with one giant, red, bull's
eyes.
Why? Because no one can grow while he/she is in a comfort zone. And if you look
around you, you don't have to look very far to see that the natural tendency of
life is to grow. Plants grow, animals grow, people grow not only physically, but
also emotionally and spiritually. If you find yourself in such a place where you
don't grow, unwanted things (challenges) will start to occur so that you can
grow so that the balance in life can be maintained. Obviously no one on this
Earth can escape challenges, but you can pick the challenges or they can pick
themselves (many times unwanted ones).
So how do you know you are in a comfort zone? It might be a good indication that
you are in a comfort zone when you are bored, keep on being mentally tired,
where you have become complacent, or where you are not inspired and moved by
what you do.
Look around you, look inside you, deeply inside you. Where do you experience
some major challenges or problems in your life; work, relationships, self? The
chances that you are in a comfort zone are quite big. For as long as you stay in
that comfy little place where you are most relaxed and undisturbed, you will be
the target of unwanted challenges.
What can you do right now to get you out of that comfort zone/s?
As a coach I see you as creative and resourceful and therefore you already have
all the answers to get you out of it. Unfortunately most of us find ourselves in
a comfort zone where we don't want to ask us the necessary powerful questions
needed to get us out of it. If we do ask us these very important questions, we
wait for someone else, or the right time to get us out of it.
My passion (and job) as a coach, is to guide you on a journey of self
exploration and discovery through powerful questioning so that you can get out
of these comfort zones. Through this exploration and discovery process, you
start to set goals that are not just outrageously big and life changing, but
these are the goals that are right for you. These are the goals wherein you find
your voice. These are the goals that make you a History maker and a World
shaker.

26. Create Your Winner Mindset
New Page 1
Create Your Winner Mindset
By Reynard Ariakusuma
What will you say when you fail your math test? Most will answer: "Math is
tough, that's why I fail.", "The
teacher did not explain clearly, I can't understand a thing." or "The questions
were difficult, it was totally out of
my league." Can you see the pattern? All of the above are the acts of blaming
anyone or anything except
themselves. They think that anything bad happened to them is not their fault,
they are playing the role of
victims.
Few others will answer completely different. "I fail because I was not prepared
well.", "I couldn't remember the
formula because I was lazy.", "I did not understand a thing because I did not
look for more information." They all
take 100% responsibility of what happened to them, they fail because they only
reap what they sow.
Now, there are two types of mindsets that distinguish champions and losers. One
is the mindset. The winner is
responsible for anything going on in his/her life. "I succeed because I deserve
it, and I fail because I lack
something." The other is the victim mindset. If anything bad happen, it will
instantly blame others. It's like
there are something greater out there that make the victims become of who they
are now.
The victim mindset is destructive! It makes you think that you are under control
of some greater powers and
cannot do anything. You will never take actions to make things better. The
opposite, winners, thinks that
nothing else is responsible for their current state, they are fully in charge of
their life. They will take actions if
there is a room for improvements, because they are sure it is totally up to them
to be a better person. To
advanced in career and to live life to the fullest!
Create your winner mindset now. Let no one and nothing prevent you from reaching
your goals.

27. Unusual Traits of Highly Successful People
New Page 1
Unusual Traits Of Highly Successful People!
By Akin Alabi
We've all heard about the successful people of this world. We've heard of people
like Bill Gates, Steve Jobbs, Richard Branson and so on.
We have also heard what it takes to be successful like these people. We heard
you have to save, you have to start your own business, you have to own
properties, you have to be prudent with your finances and so on.
While all these are true (they are time tested), there are other traits that
I've noticed about many successful people. They are traits people don't notice.
They are traits people don't talk about. Traits that make them succeed where
many others have failed.
I'm going to share those traits with you today. Make sure you learn from them
and more importantly act on them.
Trait One: Successful People Are Always Learning
I was at a seminar not too long ago and I was seated beside a fine gentleman.
After the seminar, I gathered he was a multi millionaire that specializes in
importing goods from China. I know a lot of people will wonder why someone who
is worth over hundred million dollars will be doing in a seminar.
The truth is that most successful people are permanent learners. They always
want to learn new things that will give them new ideas as well as new insights
into how things are done.
Trait Two: Successful People Always Ask Questions
I've never met any successful person that claims to know it all yet I've met
many average people who claim to be experts on all issues on the face of this
planet.
Most successful people ask questions about many things. They don't pretend to
know it all. In fact, they don't attempt to know it all. That is why they
surround themselves with attorneys, accountants and so on.
Trait Three: Successful People Desire More Success
I've met many people that say they will stop working or stop trying to achieve
things once they make a million dollars. Most successful people don't think like
that. They are always looking for new challenges.
I bet we've all heard of people who sold their companies for millions and then
start a new business from scratch. That is the spirit and that is why they seem
to be forever successful.
I strongly believe these little tricks can help all of us move towards our
dreams of becoming extremely successful. Let us make use of them.
We Can All Succeed!

28. Google Category Exclusions Google Category Exclusions
Did you noticed Google’s recent announcement regarding support for category exclusions within content campaigns.
This announcement basically said that you have two new ways to exclude sites from your content campaign, the “Topics” and “Page Types” tools.
The Topics exclusion tool provides you the ability to exclude your ads from pages displaying information on certain types of topics like Death & tragedy and Juvenile, gross & bizarre content.
The Page Types exclusion tool provides you the ability to exclude your ads from certain types of pages like parked pages, error pages, and forums.
If you find these categories limited in scope, you might also be interested in a whole host of other categories available for exclusion.
Locating Additional Categories
Use category exclusions based on the categories available in Google’s “Placement Tool”.
There are 27 top level categories including Travel, Science, Health & Beauty, and Social Networks. Additionally, there are many more sub categories if these 27 top level categories are too broad.
To find the list of categories provided in the Placement Tool:
Click on “Add placements” within a “site targeted” campaign.
View the list of categories used to organize sites for Site Targeting.
Preparing Categories for Exclusion
Use the Placement Tool as described above to identify the categories you want to exclude in your content campaign.
Make sure you note the top level category and any sub level categories leading up to the category you’d like to exclude. If you exclude a top level category, any sub level category underneath your choice will also be excluded.
Record your excluded categories using the following syntax:
Level 1 Category>>Level 2 Category>>Level 3 Category
Example: Entertainment>>Music>>Lyrics & Tabs
Place the text “category::” before each listing.
Example: category::Entertainment>>Music>>Lyrics & Tabs
Implementing Excluded Categories
When you’ve identified the categories you would like to exclude, and you have documented these categories as described above, you’ll need to go back into your content campaign and click on “Edit” next to “site and category exclusion(s)”.
Paste the list of the categories you’d like to exclude in the “Add exclusions:” field.
Examples:
category::Entertainment>>Music>>Lyrics & Tabs
category::Animals>>Pets
category::Arts & Humanities
category::Automotive>>Auto Parts>>Vehicle Tires
Save all changes and you’re done.
Words of Warning
Please Pay special attention when excluding anything from an advertising network. Exclusions can be a great way to help you improve relevancy and ROI, but exclusions can also cost you exposure and conversions. As always, think things through and test, test, test.
Hopefully in the future Google will just include these categories in the “Site and Category Exclusion” section to make this process easier.

30. MPA Pushes For better Readership,Engagement
Magazine Publishers of America has set forth a major initiative to improve
measurement of magazine readership and engagement with advertising.
New audience-based metrics in the works include exposure to each issue of a
magazine, broken down by demographics such as age, gender, income and ethnicity.
MPA also aims to measure engagement with ads — based on recall for individuals
spots — on an issue-by-issue basis. Consumer action as a result of the ads will
also be measured by issue. MPA will depend on self-reported customer data to
show purchase intent and drive to Web.
“A key item was to become faster in our measurement and more comparable to
the way other media are measured and more accountable,” said Nina Link,
president/CEO of MPA. “It will make it possible for advertisers to buy space
based on the number of people who read our magazines — not just the number of
copies we distribute — and it will help more accurately convey the value of
magazine advertising.”
By improving measurement techniques, MPA leaders hope to be able to report on
magazine exposure and engagement within a shorter period of time. The goal for
the 200 largest magazines is to have reports done six to eight weeks from
distribution date for weeklies and eight to twelve weeks for monthly titles.
Such reports are primarily intended to improve ad sales, but they could also
be of use to circulation marketers. Better metrics on consumer interests and
buying behaviors should make for more targeted marketing campaigns.
“There really is an interesting benefit to getting a better understanding of
how your audience is using your magazine and engaging your magazine above and
beyond what you typically might ascertain through subscriber research,” said
Scott Crystal, president of TV Guide, which is signed up for the service. “On an
issue-by-issue analysis, just think of the benefit of new data that measures
issue-by-issue engagement with your editorial product.”
The new measurement system will also make magazine audience reports more
comparable to metrics used by other media. In today's marketplace, where
multi-platform packages are quickly gaining traction against single-media
brands, comparability across media should prove a boon to ad sales teams.
“From the TV Guide perspective, any new measurement that can help advertisers
understand the benefits and the value of the magazine is a positive
development,” said Crystal. “It becomes a pretty powerful story for us to take
to the advertising community at large, especially because it provides
comparability to all the other media that are part of the usual sources of how
agencies develop a media mix modeling based plan for their clients.”
“We're really the only medium that is looked at from a distribution or
circulation perspective,” he continued, “so it doesn't allow for a good
apples-to-apples comparison.”
The move to better measurement was born from research undertaken by MPA, the
magazine industry, and management consultant firm McKinsey & Company. The
three parties have been working together for the past year, conducting
discussions with ad clients and agency heads to build the new approach.
“It's important to note that we had a lot of feedback and input from the
advertising community to make sure that it did align with their goals and where
they see their business going,” Link pointed out. “We think it will work for
them and that it will be a great benefit to publishers as well.”
Going forward, a number of MPA task forces will research ways to improve
online survey techniques. Link expects the full transition to take a couple of
years.
